Bulls shape up well for weekend carnival

June 7 | Ashley Robinson

Good luck to the Wide Bay Bulls this weekend when they play in the Queensland Rugby League divisional carnival at Gatton.

It is chock full of Coast players who have had a busy schedule over the last few weeks.

The Bulls had an interesting training session the other day at Mike (11 is unlucky for some) Foley’s boxing gym.

It didn’t go unnoticed by some of local club players that one Caboolture player, a Pirate and a Shark all aimed up pretty well in the ring.

While the boys are at Gatton, the rest of the league gets to go to Corbould Park tomorrow for the annual League Race Day where there is an auction, raffles and hopefully a few winners.

‘Locky’ tactic

The NRL Snipe has been in hibernation since Origin I but is expecting big things next Wednesday night.

However, he won’t commit to a certain Maroons win.

He told me that he is very concerned about the Blues’ tactics regarding Darren Lockyer.

“I reckon Bellamy will have something planned for the champion Queenslander. That something will probably be a human projectile in the shape of Ryan Hoffman who will be at him all night,” the Snipe said.

“Lets hope his knee, and in fact his body stands up to it.”

The Snipe was more interested in talking to me about a Legends of League played a couple of weeks ago at Ipswich.

“They talk about the younger players being pretty boys these days. What about last week at Ipswich where a former Origin hard man shocked some of his teammates by pulling out a hair dryer after the game and going in search of a power point.

“If that wasn’t bad enough, a couple of days later I was in Brisbane and copped a couple more so-called legends coming out of a ladies salon where the sign said Cut and Colour and I think they had both.”

He was too shattered to tell me who they were apart from both being foundation Broncos.

Fatties club

A bunch of well-to-do guys at Kawana have started a club to look after their wellbeing and I think they call it the Fat Boys Club.

Apparently they go walking along the beach and are very health conscious so there are penalties for not turning up as well as forgetting hats and so on.

If they happen to not bring a hat, the offender has to wear a pink one. This happened the other day to a former local politician, who was not short of self-confidence until a surfer yelled out from the water: “Well hello Priscilla.”

The mail is he won’t ever forget his hat again.

Sailor’s return

I have to admit that even though Wendell Sailor did the wrong thing by getting involved with drugs, at least he put his hand up and admitted it.

No excuses, no mother giving it to him or someone slipping it in his water bottle.

But I do wonder whether his comeback last night against the Broncos was more about flagging sales at St George Leagues Club, and the huge gate they were expecting because of Dell, rather than his form.

Have your say
