Ashley Robinson is the master of self-deprecation. He reckons he has two sorts of luck – bad luck and no luck. As a lifetime resident of the Coast, this former publican has plenty of nostalgic memories to share. A Joel Moon rising

My abysmal form continues in the Daily tipping comp and I am now forced into picking upsets.
Take last week for instance, I really thought the Tigers could beat the Broncos but the boat was missed by a fraction when the black and gold men missed a field goal that my Mum could have kicked with seconds to go.
Observations on the night were two-fold, Benji Marshall appears to be a passenger going by his game last week, while the silver lining on the dark cloud for me was Joel Moon’s performance for the Broncos.
Now the Warriors-bound Moon really highlighted something to me last week, I really think if the Broncos had given him his head a bit more and backed his talent rather than banking it he would be regular starter by now.
Anyway hopefully for Joel, they will be the loser next year when I am sure he will get plenty of game time.
What about a local Mooloolaba identity that is loosely related to sport by his association to a social golf club and punting on horses.
Recently while enjoying the hospitality of coastal watering hole, old mate lost $120 before he got to punt it or swallow it, which really annoyed him, so he went around every table alerting customers that he had lost his money off the table.
The accusations quickly died down when someone told him that it was in the middle of his form guide, of course there were no apologies.
For the next two weeks league and union have joined forces to support “Call to Arms” which is a campaign for men’s health and a chance to raise funds to fight cancer.
The Stingrays' Glen Panoho and Local Leagues' CEO Billy Moore have joined to together with their respective clubs to support the cause, players, clubs and supporters should be commended for their efforts, so if you go to local game and see some yellow armbands, that is what’s happening and feel free to drop a gold coin in the box.
The rivalry between the codes is still pretty strong with Billy pledging two Rugby league World Cup tickets to the club that raises the most money.
I had to laugh because when this was at the launch, Glen dryly commented that that, “You leagues, it’s more like a pseudo world cup".
Now Billy and I were at Caloundra, and it took us to Buddina to figure out how to spell it and the Mooloolah River for response, which was via a phone call to Glenn, “That’s okay, rugby is pseudo body contact.”
But in all seriousness, it was great to get together with the union boys and well done to all participants.

This organisation is doing great work in giving a hand to those less fortunate in the league world.
