B2 takes US voters out of deep freeze

November 15 | Jamie Dunn

The American elections have certainly had an impact even on my two youngest.

I was so proud of them last week when they got in the car at school pick up and nine year old Poppy said, "Did you know Obama won the election?" and 11 year old Jackson continued, "Yes, and McCain lost".

The level of discussions soon slumped with Poppy breaking out into song, "Obama in Pyjamas is coming down the stairs", followed by Jackson quoting an Australian advertisement, "Oh McCain, you've lost it again".

Don't forget to ring home

My 17 year old Stella is about to head to London to work as a teacher's aide for her gap year.

With that in mind her mother gave her one of her gold rings with a ruby set among a cluster of diamonds to remember her by.

As Stella was playing volleyball at the Sunshine Coast Uni she took the heirloom off and put it in her shorts pocket.

As you'd expect, after the game it wasn't there. She'd had it only a week and she'd lost it.

She was in tears when she called me and begged that her father go to the volleyball courts, get on his hands and knees and find it.

Now let me tell you if you're going to lose anything I fully recommend that you do so at the Sippy Downs uni because when I called the switchboard I fully expected the old palm off and perhaps a terse, "Sir, do you realise how big the university is?"

But it was quite the contrary. A lovely lady named Karen was completely interested in my predicament and enthusiastic about getting the ring back.

So much so that she emailed the cleaning staff and personally called the volleyball courts and what a great outcome. Later that day she rang me and was proud to announce that it had been handed in.

Now it wasn't just Karen's customer service that floored me. It was the fact that everyone at the university was keen to help a little girl who had lost her mother's gift.

Thank you, Karen, and all the uni team.

Jamie's addiction

At Forest Glen next to the bakery is a fruit shop called Crunch.

There's a lovely South African couple in there who have a frozen yoghurt machine.

You can have mango and strawberry, mixed berry, pineapple or you can have mango, strawberry, mixed berry and pineapple all rolled into one. You can have a cup or a cone.

Personally I can't stop eating the damn things but one word of warning. If you eat it too fast – brain freeze.

Impaired performance

My 19 year old son Joshua broke his toe last week which means he just has to sit around and do nothing which, incidentally, is exactly what he was doing before he broke his toe.

Joshua had the mishap while skateboarding after a few beers. I can't tell you how proud I am.

Air waves bye bye

Due to an unfortunate oversight at my last radio station, they forgot to give me a farewell party.

Surely they couldn't have been actually pleased to see me leave. In any case, I've decided to have my own.

It's at the Chambers Restaurant in Gympie on November 19. All the proceeds go to the Gympie Special School.

You can get your tickets at Elders Real Estate in Mary Street or from Gympie Special School.

Surely it's worth $25.00 to make sure I go. For tickets you can phone Janet Jerram on 0408 156 805.

Have your say
