Blog Central: Girl Talk Each week, award-winning journalist Amy Remeikis brings the female perspective on sport, as only she can. Slightly off-beat, sometimes cynical, Amy takes a good look at the world of sport, sports stars and anything to do with bats, balls, tracks, stumps and pools – but with no jock straps in sight!

Sports scandals deja vu

August 5 | Amy Remeikis

Is anyone else getting a sense of deja vu in the world of sport lately?

I just can’t seem to shake the feeling that everything that has hit the sports news pages, outside of the results, has already happened.

Golden swimming couple breaking up?

It’s been done.

Before Facebook and Davenport undies, there was Michael Klim and Giaan Rooney.

Both were rather blessed in the looks department – as swimmers go – and both had the added bonus at being good at their job – that being winning stuff in the pool.

Alas, as Rice and Sullivanafter them, true love did not last for this golden couple and after two years, it was all over.

Klim married a Balinese princess and couldn’t resist telling people about it in women’s magazines and Rooney seems to be establishing a lovely little career in the media, so it wasn’t a total loss.

Talented young AFL player charged with drink-driving after smashing into parked car.

Psssff. Old news.

Adelaide fans remember Graham Johncock’s unfortunate altercation with two parked vehicles not so long ago.

Take out the parked car bit and you’ve got a wealth of AFL players who have been in Heath Shaw’s shoes in the past.

Danny Jacobs did it in 2004, Michael Gardiner did it as a West Coast Eagle in 2006 and who can forget Ben Cousins and the running-away-from-the-car incident?

Besides, if history has taught us anything, it should be that Collingwood should be used to players behaving badly.

Eddie went on a rant this morning claiming the club has lost $4 million in sponsorship deals over the years because of players behaving badly.

And anyways, Heath, Sharrod Wellingham has already been busted for drink-driving this year, so that has already been done.

Sam Newman says something stupid and demeaning to women?

When does Sam Newman not say something stupid and demeaning to women?

The man has made a career out of it.

He says something stupid, his co-hosts tell him he can’t say that, he expands on whatever stupid thing he has just uttered, women get upset, said upset women write upset letters to Channel Nine, Channel Nine apologises for Sam and says the stupid comment was taken out of context and the hub-bub dies down, until Sam decides to utter something stupid and demeaning again.

Seriously - it is perpetual motion in action.

The guy is not going to change. Instead of getting upset, stop watching!

Bulldog player leaves the country without telling anyone?

Also been done.

Does the name Solomon Haumono ring any bells?

No? What about his dash to the UK to win back his lady love Gabrielle
“pleasure machine” Richens?

Haumono was contracted to the Doggies, but fled the country to be with Gabrielle after they met in a Sydney nightclub. He came back. Doesn’t look like SBW will.

As Shirley Bassey said: We’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again, it’s just little bits of history repeating.
