Each week, award-winning journalist Amy Remeikis brings the female perspective on sport, as only she can. Slightly off-beat, sometimes cynical, Amy takes a good look at the world of sport, sports stars and anything to do with bats, balls, tracks, stumps and pools – but with no jock straps in sight! Bogan love triangle is not sport

Sydney Swan Barry Hall has done some stupid, stupid things.
Really stupid.
And he needs to remember that outside of a boxing ring, punching people is always going to end in tears.
But after reading that one of the corners of the “love-triangle” which has resulted in his latest on-field outburst and subsequent suspension has decided to move on with her life by selling her story to ACA, I felt like punching something.
Seriously.
What on earth is she thinking?
Tahli Greenwood’s mum told Sydney media that her 22-year-old daughter was selling her soul ... oops, I mean story, because she wants to get on with her life and the family wants to put the “whole situation” behind them.
Now, I have had no personal experience with the world of sporting relationships gone sour ... but surely it would be easier to move on if you didn’t plaster your face on national television crying over what went wrong.
Big Bad Bazza plays football. And occasionally forgets that he plays football and is no longer boxing by mixing up the two.
And blaming his “brain snaps” on the problems in his personal life was probably a stupid move: a) because most of us don’t react by physically striking out at others if we are having issues at home, and b) because some things are better left private.
But now his “friend with benefits” – as the other corner of the love triangle, Kylie Stray (the on-again off-again girlfriend of 11 years), charmingly referred to her – has decided to lay all of their dirty laundry out in public.
And Big Bad Bazza won’t have the opportunity to just work on getting his head straight so he can do what he is paid to do – play football without punching people.
Because after last night’s effort, BBB will be once again embroiled in dealing with his personal life.
And it makes me angry because who do these people think they are?
And is there really interest in this type of thing or do we create the interest by reporting on it.
It’s getting towards the pointy end of the season and instead of looking at who looks like being final contenders as opposed to pretenders (stupid Pies), we are talking about Barry Hall and his girlfriends.
Since when did sporting stars become an acceptable vehicle for others grasping for 15 minutes of fame?
Media outlets pay for this sort of stuff because they are convinced it is what we want to watch and read.
Is it really?
On a personal side, if Tahli and Barry didn’t work out because he decided he really loved Kylie, then suck it up princess.
It’s the Australian bogan love story and it happens all the time – no matter who you are.
It doesn’t need to be splashed all over the national agenda because one of them saw an opportunity for a buck because one of the others runs around a sports field.
It doesn’t make the sport look good, it doesn’t make any of those involved look good, and while I will be giving it a miss, it can’t leave anyone who watches a train wreck like that feel good either.
Stuff like that should stay off the sports pages.
And BBB needs to work out his personal issues so he stops bringing them onto the field with him.
