The new rugby league season is about to start and so is the search for the Sunshine Coast Rugby League Team of the Century.
As part of the celebration of the game’s 100 years in Australia, a selection panel, with the help of the Daily’s readers, is going to settle on a squad of 17 players, plus a coach, who have made the biggest impact on the game in this region.
It won’t be an easy task.
And that’s where you come in.
Every league follower on the Coast will have a say on who makes the short list, which will be handed to the judging panel which includes chairman Des Dwyer, Sunshine Coast-Gympie Rugby League president Ashley Robinson, Benny Pike, Mick Hourigan and yours truly.
From next Friday, we’ll be calling for nominations for the Team of the Century and each week we will concentrate on one or two positions – fullback is first up.
The shortlist of 52 names will be trimmed down to the final 17, which will be officially announced at a special function at the Mooloolaba Surf Club on Wednesday, April 23.
Nominating a player, or players, and a coach could get you to a State of Origin match this season.
Send in an entry and you will go into the draw for a State of Origin package which includes two tickets for the Suncorp Stadium game, accommodation in Brisbane and a Queensland Origin jumper.
When we have our shortlist, readers will be able to nominate their Team of the Century and go into the draw for another Origin tickets and accommodation package.
The criteria is simple.
To be eligible for selection, a player must have played for a club in the region from Caboolture in the south to Noosa in the north and west to Stanley Rivers. Gympie-based players will be selected in their own Gympie Team of the Century.
They must have played at least two years of A-grade level rugby league in the Sunshine Coast/North Coast Rugby League competition and have played a A-grade representative fixture for the region.
Later in the year, the Wide Bay Rugby League will name its own Team of the Century, with the Sunshine Coast’s best vying for positions with representatives from Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gympie and South Burnett.
Keep your eye out for the first nomination form in the Daily’s Game On liftout next Friday.

Sunshine Coast league supremo Billy Moore is about to make a comeback.
The former Origin great is in the Coast Masters side which will contest the ARL Masters tournament on the Gold Coast from March 12-15.
The team has its first “very intense” workout on Tuesday at the Maroochydore Rugby League grounds at 6pm.
