Will drink-drivers ever learn?

December 20 | Coast police

Police from the Sunshine Coast District are amazed that motorists still continue to drink and drive, despite awareness of the dangers and publicity about the holiday road blitz.

Sunshine Coast Water Police officers were travelling along the Bruce Highway at the weekend when a vehicle in the lane next to them allegedly swayed towards their car.

The officers stopped the 60-year-old male driver for a random breath test, which returned a positive result.

The driver allegedly admitted he had driven from Biloela on his way to Deception Bay and stopped at several pubs during the journey.

He also allegedly told the officers that he had consumed a six pack during the journey.

The driver was taken to the police station, where he returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.221%, and was subsequently charged with drink-driving.

And at Alexandra Headlands on the weekend, a 27-year-old man was allegedly caught drink-driving twice in one night.

He was pulled over by members of the Tactical Crime Squad around 1am on Sunday for a random breath test, and returned a positive result.

The man was taken to the police station, where he recorded a breath-alcohol reading of 0.141% and was charged with drink-driving.

Around 3am the same morning, the same police again saw the man driving his vehicle at Alexandra Headlands.

They pulled him over and he was taken back to the station, where he returned a result of 0.115%.

Police charged him with drink-driving a second time and immediately disqualified him from driving until his court appearance.

Drug seizure

Police seized cannabis plants with an alleged street value of around $80,000 during a raid on a property in Nambour last week.

The officers from the Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad also allegedly found $20,000 worth of hydroponic equipment.

A 27-year-old man is due to appear in court next month to face several drug charges.
