New driver crashes Gran's car

November 7 | Coast police

A teenager had only had his driver’s licence for four days before being involved in an accident yesterday while allegedly drink-driving.

The 17-year-old lost control of his vehicle on Kawana Way at Sippy Downs, crossing over the median strip and hitting a guard rail.

He was breath-tested and allegedly returned a reading of 0.137%. The teen was also issued with an infringement notice for failing to display his P plates.

He was driving his grandmother’s car, which sustained moderate damage in the crash.

Driven to distraction

A middle-aged male driver followed a marked police vehicle from Noosa to Coolum on the Sunshine Motorway while talking on his mobile phone.

Not only was he so distracted he didn’t realise the police car was in front him, he then overtook the officers who were already doing the speed limit – all the while still talking on his phone!

The driver was then stopped and issued an infringement notice for using the mobile phone whilst driving.

Tip of the month

Police will be focusing on the roadworthiness of vehicles in the lead up to the Christmas holidays.

Vehicles, both new and old, will be stopped and subjected to tests.

One of the main offenders is bald tyres – if they are badly worn, you can expect to have your vehicle ordered off the road immediately.

I see people on mobile phones all the time - can we video them in the act and then hand it in to the police.
I might seem like a dobber but I don't care.
Innocent people are also using the road and it's me and others that I am protecting.
A big fat fine will do the trick, get them where it hurts (money).
