Drunk driver asleep at the wheel

August 13 | Coast police

A man who fell asleep in the driver’s seat of a car parked on Beerburrum Road caught the attention of officers on patrol in Aroona.

After noticing vomit outside the driver’s door, police spoke with the man and gave him a random breath test, which returned a positive reading.

He was then taken to the Kawana station, where he was arrested after returning a second breath-alcohol reading of 0.202.

Five other drink-drivers were arrested last Thursday night, including four who had been involved in traffic accidents. They all had readings – 0.22%, 0.19%, 0.18%, 0.16% and 0.14%.

Meanwhile, Eumundi Police intercepted a motorist on the Bruce Highway at a speed of 140 km/hr in a 110 km/hr zone. He was also alleged to have been drink-driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .11%.

A 46-year-old Cooroy man will be appearing in court in relation to the charges.

Police said the man allegedly told officers he was rushing to get home to let his child into the house after school, because he wasn’t there to meet him as he was drinking with a mate at Maroochydore.

Meanwhile, police observed a vehicle doing burn-outs at the intersection of Beerburrum St and the Nicklin Way in Currimundi.

The vehicle was impounded by police and the driver was issued with a Notice to Appear to appear in the Magistrates court for the hoon offence.

This is his fourth hoon Type 1 offence and the fourth time he has had his car impounded.
