Mooloolaba Beat police were called to a private residence at Mooloolaba at 5pm on Monday afternoon where a domestic dispute had taken place.
On arrival, they found a 20-year-old man being held down in the front yard by his father.
The father had suffered a serious injury and the 20-year-old continued to violently threaten police, forcing them to resort to the use of capsicum spray.
The young man was on bail for drug offences, assaulting police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, drink-driving, stealing, and breaching bail.
He was further charged with breaching domestic violence orders and wilful damage. He will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Drink-driver nearly five times the limit
More than 30 drink-drivers - including one who recorded a blood alcohol concentration nearly five times the legal limit - were picked up in another disappointing weekend for Coast police in the campaign against drink-driving.
A 45 year-old-man intercepted by Nambour police had a blood alcohol reading on 0.24%, the highest recorded for the period.
Among the other offenders was a 36-year -old fisherman, intercepted by Mooloolaba Beat police while driving on Brisbane Road, who recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.168%.
In Caloundra, police detected 42-year-old male driver at Kings Beach with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15%.
A 25-year-old female sales assistant was stopped at Alexandra Headland by Maroochydore police and returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.184% while in Coolum, police intercepted a 39-year-old storeman on South Coolum Road, who was driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.170%.
Beerwah police detected five drink-drivers over the weekend with Palmwoods picking up three.
Licensee fined for serving drinks after hours
Sunshine Coast Police Liquor officers were kept busy over the weekend. A Hinterland licensee was found serving alcohol to a group of friends after hours and was issued with an on-the-spot fine of $750. Further down the Coast, another licensee was fined $450 for allowing liquor to be consumed on the premises after hours.
Illegal speed detector detected
Noosa Heads police were alerted to the driving of a Ford sedan on Gympie Terrace Noosaville at 2.55pm on Sunday.
The vehicle was intercepted, a 20-year-old male from Noosaville was spoken to and the car examined.
Police found the car had bald tyres and also noticed it was fitted with an illegal speed detector on the dashboard. (The device is designed to warn the driver if the vehicle being used is targeted by police speed detection equipment).
It was seized by police and the driver issued with a number of on-the-spot fines.
