| Coast police
A couple of Noosa locals probably wish they hadn’t decided to go for a ride on their moped late on Saturday night.
The Sunshine Coast District duty officer was on mobile patrol in Edward Street in Noosa Heads around 11.10pm when he saw the two men.
When he stopped them, he saw that the pillion passenger was wearing a motorcycle helmet but the rider was wearing only a pushbike helmet.
The 20-year-old Noosa Heads man presented a learner’s permit, but it had expired 18 months earlier.
The police officer also smelled alcohol on him, and gave him a roadside breath test. He returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.106%.
The rider was charged with a number of offences, including drink-driving, and will appear in the Noosa Heads Magistrates Court next month.
Steering in the wrong direction
A man was seen pushing a green Toyota Camry Sedan while another man was in the driver’s seat steering it in the early hours of Saturday morning in Caloundra.
The district duty officer on patrol in Baldwin Street Caloundra found that the 20-year-old driver did not have a valid driver’s licence. The legal blood-alcohol limit for someone under 25 is zero, but the young man recorded a reading of 0.041%.
He will be appearing in the Caloundra Magistrates Court next month.
Spaniard in a spot of bother
There is absolutely no tolerance for drink-driving on the Sunshine Coast.
A 24-year-old Spanish national was stopped by Noosa Heads police at 12.20am on Sunday and found to have a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.101%.
He was issued a notice to appear in the Noosa Heads Magistrate’s Court next month.
