Sorry officer, but I was running late

A 29-year-old Mooloolaba man allegedly drove himself to court to face a charge of disqualified driving because he didn’t want to be late for the hearing.
Maroochydore police were called to the carpark adjacent to the police station, where a Holden ute had been parked illegally. The travelling public were disrupted, as local buses and long-distance coaches were unable to pass the vehicle.
Officers tracked the driver to the Maroochydore Magistrates Court, where he was appearing in relation to a disqualified driving charge. He was fined $750 and disqualified for a further two years.
After court, he was interviewed by police and after initially denying he drove to court, he allegedly admitted driving while he was a disqualified because he “didn’t want to be late for court”.
The Mooloolaba man stated that he was worried that if he was late a warrant would be issued and he wouldn’t be able to join the army.
Police will allege the offender drove to court while disqualified and the incident was his third offence.
The vehicle was impounded by police and the man will again face the Maroochydore Magistrates Court next month on a further charge of disqualified driving and other traffic offences.
Extra patrols pay off
Sunshine Coast detectives and Caloundra police have been performing special patrols in response to an increasing number of break and enter offences within the Caloundra CBD.
Two men were arrested last night after being found hiding in buses near the Caloundra City Council building.
There had been a recent break and enter of a travel agency in Bulcock Street.
Police will allege the two men and one woman have been responsible for a number of breaks and enter offences at Caloundra over previous weeks.
