Drink and drugs a dangerous mix

January 14 | Coast police

Reported sightings of a vehicle swerving from side to side and crossing double white lines on the road between Pomona and Cooroy caused officers to spring into action.

Suspecting the driver was a danger to himself and other road users, Cooroy police set out to find the Holden Commodore Sedan around 11am last Thursday.

The driver was intercepted in Myall Street, Cooroy, where he allegedly admitted consuming a large amount of alcohol and Valium. He returned a breath-alcohol reading of .223%

Additional police checks revealed he was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence by a South Australian Court and therefore should not have been driving.

The 48-year-old will appear in the Noosa Magistrates Court in February.

Chevy seen leaving burglary

Police were called at 6.55am on Saturday after a stolen Chevrolet utility was allegedly seen leaving the scene of a burglary at Palmwoods.

A short time later, Nambour police found the ute at the Mobil Service Station in Nambour.

They followed it into Bli Bli Road at Nambour, after confirming the vehicle had been taken from Brisbane earlier in the morning, and then tried to intercept the driver.

He initially attempted to evade police, but was stopped a short time later and taken into custody.

Sunshine Coast detectives took over the investigation, after which the 38-year-old Boondall man was charged with unlawfully using a motor vehicle, attempted break and enter, burglary, two counts of bringing stolen goods into Queensland, evading/obstructing police and unlicensed driving.
