Drink-driver carried in for breath test

January 31 | Coast police

A female drink-driver picked up over the Australia Day weekend was so drunk that police had to carry her into Maroochydore Police Station to undertake a breath test.

She was one of 34 people arrested and charged in another disappointment for the community in the campaign against drink-driving on the Sunshine Coast.

A 19-year-old on a provisional licence was stopped by police conducting random breath testing on the Nicklin Way at Bokarina at 10.50pm on the night of Australia Day.

He said he was on his way to Mooloolaba to pick up mates and return to Bokarina, which would have meant breaking the late night driving condition on his licence.

His blood-alcohol also should have been zero, but when tested he was found to be 0.057%.

Police conducted 2037 random breath tests during the three-day holiday period with the highest reading recorded at 0.250%.

The results show that drink-drivers are refusing to heed warnings and are continuing to pose a danger on Coast roads.

In a bid to address the problem, police are asking for help from the community.

If you encounter a drink-driver, call 000. They are committing a life endangering offence and you and I could be the next victim.
