A man was caught travelling at 24km/h over the speed limit on Saturday, just along the road from where three young men were killed in a crash at Boreen Point.
Police were leaving the site of the crash when they activated their mobile radar and recorded a vehicle doing 124km/h in the 100km/h zone on McKinnon Drive.
This speeding offence took place within sight of flowers notes and crosses left at the incident scene.
Police were amazed that immediately after this accident, a vehicle and a local can be caught doing this speed within sight of the triple fatality.
The 45-year-old driver was issued with a speeding fine.

Whilst not a total answer to all speeding problems the question has to asked, why are vehicles sold that can go over the maximum speed limit? With exception to emergency services why aren't vehicles sold that are limited to an upper speed of 110kph?
The authorities can mandate all sorts of safety standards yet ignore speed.
If the Federal government was on board, so that we gain economies of scale, civilian vehicles should be speed limited. It would make everyone's life a little easier. When you factor in the lives that are lost to reckless speeding, the cost of fitting and mandating speed limiters seems affordable.
- A good suggestion Jason that really needs serious consideration. When you look at last week's triple fatality near Tewantin and the one at Karawatha Drive, they both involved high-powered vehicles. That's six lives that could have been saved - Editor
I completely agree with you. All cars should be speed limited. I found out today that the men (Ryan, Josh and Michael) who died in the car accident on McKinnon Drive were going approx 180kmph, I knew they were speeding...but that is just ridiculous!!
I don't get what goes through these peoples heads. They think they are invincible!. Not only do drivers doing these speeds risk there own lives, but they are risking everyone else's lives on the road.
Unfortunately when an accident occurs it affects everyone involved: the driver, passengers, other drivers, emergency personal, police, and witnesses.
I believe that a defensive driving course for young drivers should be compulsory before allowing people on the road, cars should be speed limited....and another thought that occurred to me today was this: Motorbike users have to work their way up on motorbikes for eg. start with 125cc then 250cc then upwards...why can't we do that also with cars? make it learners and provisionals start with 4 cylinder and then when open license held for 2 years or so allow them up to 6 or 8 cylinder.
I know drivers are going to still break the law either way...but anything that can be done to reduce the carnage on the roads is worth it!!
