Weapons surprise for local police

May 15 | Coast police

Police tracked down the driver of a suspect vehicle recently and allegedly found a number of weapons and stolen number plates in the car.

The vehicle first came to the attention of Beerwah police on Steve Irwin Way, when they noticed it was displaying allegedly stolen number plates.

The driver of the suspect vehicle allegedly failed to stop when police attempted to intercept the vehicle.

Police abandoned the intercept due to the allegedly dangerous manner in which the suspect vehicle was being driven and the heavy traffic conditions.

The crew subsequently lost sight of the vehicle in the Glasshouse area.

After extensive patrols of that region, police saw the suspect vehicle exit a side street, stop and then reverse in the opposite direction.

Police again attempted to intercept the vehicle, which at this point had allegedly reversed into the back yard of a residence and bogged itself in a sand pit.

The driver of the vehicle was detained and a search of the vehicle allegedly located a quantity of weapons and numerous stolen number plates.

Further police checks revealed the driver was also a person of interest in respect to a number of unsolved crimes.

Detectives are progressing investigations in relation to numerous offences that may have been committed by the driver of the vehicle.
