What to cook tonight

February 25 | Mark Chapman

Unfortunately, I am pretty average in the kitchen.

I know, I know, I know... It's supposed to be sexy for a guy to be able to whip up a feast from random exotic ingredients for his lady love - wooden spoon in hand, glass of wine in the other - but I simply haven't managed to quite achieve the magical powers required to make the stuff in the fridge become a gourmet dinner. Yet, anyway.

In fact, my wife has long since resigned herself to the fact that spag-bol is about as sexy as it gets with me at the helm in our kitchen.

(In my defense, it's incredibly good spag-bol though...)

Anyway, it turns out there is hope for me yet. My salvation may have come in the form of a great little website called www.cookingbynumbers.com.

Now, instead of going through the agony of looking in the cupboard and fridge, and then staring blankly at a cookbook, desperately hoping that a recipe with exactly the available ingredients will jump out at me, I can let this website do the thinking for me.

Simply check the boxes of what you have at your disposal and www.cookingbynumbers.com will present a list of possible meals to prepare. And if that's still too hard, just select your ingredients along with "I feel lucky" and the website will present you with the best, most likely choice of culinary delight.

With plenty tasty choices, you'll be cooking in no time.

The site leaves you with no excuses at all, including a section entitled Skills by Numbers which shows you everything from how to chop an onion to converting measurements.

Hey, this even looks easy to me.

Now all I need is one of those internet fridges...

Have your say
