A man has been arrested by police after doing a 'nudie run' down Mooloolaba Esplanade in the early hours of this morning.

Maroochydore Police said they were flagged down by members of the public who reported a male person walking along the Mooloolaba Esplanade totally naked about 1.40 this morning.

"Police located the male person whereupon they observed that his genitals were in full view to the public and that many members of the public were gathering around,'' police said.

"Police then attempted to arrest the male offender whereupon he then decamped on foot.

The man then tried to run down Brisbane Road.

"After a small foot chase, police then apprehended and restrained the offending male.

"The male offender stating to police that it was part of a dare put to him by his friends to do a ‘Nudie Run’.

The alleged offender, aged 25, was arrested and charged with wilful exposure and obstruct police offences.

If convicted, the man can expect to face a $100 to $150 fine.
