Seven youths have been evicted from a Sunshine Coast high-rise after allegedly throwing glasses and bottles from a 16th-floor unit.
The incident, described as dangerous and irresponsible behaviour by police, allegedly happened in Mooloolaba on Sunday.
It is also alleged that a pocket knife was thrown at a maintenance worker while he attempted to clean up the broken glass.
It is believed the seven people, aged between 16 and 20, became aggressive when asked to leave.
When police entered the room to evict the group, they found drugs and drug utensils. A 20-year-old Nambour man has been charged in relation to the find.
It is believed that one of the youths came into some money recently and had used the opportunity to treat his friends, including a 16-year-old girl, to a weekend away.
They are all thought to be from Nambour.
Inspector Tony Lewis said bad behaviour of any kind would not be tolerated.
“Being on foot (patrols), night after night after night in Mooloolaba, nothing surprises us.
“Many of the trouble makers arrive in the precinct already intoxicated and they seem to have no respect for others and this is a good example of that.”
Insp Lewis said it was up to the people creating the trouble to learn some responsibility.
“They need to realise it is not all about them,’’ he said.
“We had the tragic death of a young person falling from a 24th floor balcony in Surfers Paradise and here we have yet another example of young people who seem to think they are bullet proof.
“These people need to grow up and start taking responsibility for their actions.
“They are not the centre of the universe, but they act like they are.”
Sunshine Coast Superintendent Ben Hanbidge said police had a number of liquor and public order operations planned for the Mooloolaba area to coincide with the lead-up to Schoolies Week and the holiday season.
“There is little doubt there is a booze culture among young people who frequent the Mooloolaba area,’’ Supt Hanbidge said.
