It's Spring Fair time

The excitement of the Coolum Community Kindy’s Spring Fair is painted all over the faces of the kids who can’t wait until Sunday, August 31 when Jones Parade becomes a carnival ground.

The pre-preppers at the kindy are used to looking after their beautiful guinea pigs, but this week they became something similar when they lined up for parents to practice face-painting for the annual street fair.

And the end result was smiles all-round as the Spring Fair volunteer artists came away from the whole helpful exercise without losing any face.

The Spring Fair is a hardy annual on Coolum’s social calendar and something of a blooming miracle in that the mums and dads of the 40 youngsters attending manage to pull off a fantastic bit of fun from 8am to 1pm.

The happy, decorated faces will help set the mood for a day that does not take itself too seriously, but does a serious amount of good in raising funds to ensure the centre is resourced for the coming year.

This year the kindy’s dedicated fundraising committee has come up with ‘The Circus Comes to Town Theme’, with parent helpers dressing up for the part. They will try to inject the usual attractions that Coolum locals love with a sense of circus adventure – minus the elephants and more importantly the elephant droppings.

One new treat, courtesy of the Noosa gym club who will be the official acrobats on the day, will be a come and try Airgym – an inflatable bouncing piece of equipment that will give the Spring Fair’s jumping castle a good run for its money in popularity with the kids.

There’s a ton of entertainment and bargain buys on the day - pony rides (without the circus monkey on their backs), the giant garage sale and Coolum’s biggest brekky, with burgers recommended by eight out of 10 circus strongmen.

It goes a treat with the coffee to sooth any savage beasts within any strung-out parents who may have had a big Saturday night, good old Pluck-A-Duck being stripped bare to give fairgoers a lot of neat prizes and the Silent Auction that offers bargain buys on the quiet.

Every year the kindy parents are amazed by the generosity of spirit of the Coolum locals and kindy director Lorelle Frost loves to give back. That’s why the kids’ performances on the street stage, with the little ones performing courageously without a safety net, is a special gift back.

This piece of Coolum grassroots magic starts at 8am and by 10am, does resemble a three-ring circus in full swing.
