With three rounds remaining, this weekend’s clashes are must-win games for a few teams – or they can kiss the finals goodbye.
There are still 13 teams in the hunt for the finals but I believe the top eight will stay as they are except perhaps the Eels at the expense of Warriors who play each other in the last round. It should make for an interesting game.
This week sees me go against my usual favouritism of home teams taking five away teams.
Friday night kicks off with two very interesting games as the Broncos take on the Titans who bounced back last week with the return of little maestro Scott Prince. Will the Broncos be pretenders or contenders? Broncos for me.
Friday night sees a battle for the bronze medal come the end of the year.
Despite the Sharks being at home with their terrific defence, I am leaning towards the Roosters.
Manly put in one of their worst performances in years on the weekend.
The Tigers were just as woeful on Monday night and had more run-ins with the ref than my old man. Manly were on a downer after their defeat from Melbourne and will come back strongly.
Knights should end up in the top eight after the weekend with a win over the Cowboys who will be desperate for one more victory to avoid the wooden spoon.
The Dogs can’t beat an egg this year and that coupled with Parramatta’s form reversal will mean no omelettes for the boys this weekend. Parra to climb the ladder.
The Raiders are on fire at the moment and why shouldn’t they be. It’s cold enough in Queensland, let alone Canberra. They have actually scored more points than any team in the comp, so can’t be taken lightly. Canberra to down the Rabbits in a high scoring game.
Dragons v Warriors is a crucial game for both as the winner should secure a spot in the finals. Dragons solid defence should get them home against a woeful away record from the Warriors. Could be the end of the Warriors.
Monday night footy sees the Panthers at home to the Storm. Despite the home ground advantage, Storm are alone at the top of the table and will be looking to stay there. Panthers run to the finals to come to an end.
Come and support mum at The Delyse Shearer Inaugural Pink Day at Coolum footy grounds, David Low Way, August 30 from 3pm. The senior boys will be playing in pink socks in their first final.
There will be plenty of action with Origin greats playing, plus pink fairy floss, lollies, balloons, pink beer, fireworks, music and children’s rides. Entry is $3 but free to anyone wearing a pink shirt.
Proceeds will go to awareness and education of school children on the loss of loved ones and a cancer cure.
Phone Dale for sponsorship or donations on 0418 744 100.
Keep Smiling, Jesse
