What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with an outdoor market and food festival?
The Peregian Beach Markets Spring Into Summer Food & Wine Fiesta on Sunday, August 31, will celebrate all the good times that come with spring on the Coast. Food, wine, entertainment, market stalls, cooking demonstrations and family fun are planned for the day, with organiser Leanne Watrach determined to make this inaugural event a highlight on the Coast food and wine calendar.
“Peregian has the beach, a beautiful park, the ambience,’’ she said.
“We have over 100 stalls now. It’s time for a big food and wine event.’’
The markets, traditionally known for their art and craft, have slowly been expanding to include fresh Coast produce and products.
“The art and crafts are good but I felt the markets needed a food element,’’ Leanne said.
“I had a vision of what I wanted to create.
“I had worked with the Noosa Valley Market Gardens and I really wanted to bring them into the whole thing.
“This is how the idea for the food fiesta came around.’’
As well as local produce for sale at the fiesta, chefs from Qom Restaurant and Chez Andre will be on hand to host cooking demonstrations and cook tapas and dishes to go.
A wine tasting will be set up on the decks of Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and the music from Pantastic Steel Band will add to the party atmosphere.
“We’ll have over 100 of our regular stalls there,’’ Leanne said.
“There will be plenty of food. Pete Timbs from Hot 91 will be DJ chef.
“All people have to bring is their picnic blankets.’’
Leanne believes that with the growth of Peregian this is a chance to show off the area’s charms and its visitors how the volunteers at Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and businesspeople can stage a true celebration.
“We want to show our club’s ability and determination to host yet another major and individual event,’’ she said.
The Peregian Beach Markets Spring into Summer Food & Wine Fiesta takes place between 9am and 2pm in the park in front of the surf club.
Parking will be available on the grass opposite the bowls club.
