The man behind the Noosa Wedding Retreat development has defended accusations his proposal will destroy the peace and quiet that drew many residents to the Noosa hinterland address.
Residents living near the Tinbeerwah Road proposal said it would result in an influx of traffic on a notorious intersection and late-night noise and light from wedding celebrations.
So Noosa businessman Will Neil has invited residents to take a look at his plans in the hope of smoothing a few ruffled feathers.
“My family and I understand that some members of the community do not support the Noosa Wedding Retreat project,” Mr Neil said.
“As a Noosa local of over 27 years, I appreciate how special this area is and would not do anything to compromise that.
“It is my family’s intention to build and operate a quality, boutique wedding reception facility at Tinbeerwah: one that showcases the natural beauty of the area and adds value to the Noosa economy.”
Council confirmed it had received 63 submissions during the public notification stage, mostly objections. Rather than dig his heels in over the plans, Mr Neil said the input would help him refine his plans.
Tinbeerwah Road resident Paul Middleton said the offer was too little, too late. “He should have done that before the public notification stage,” he said.
Mr Neil said people interested in visiting the site and viewing the Noosa Wedding Retreat’s plans may phone 5447 1444.

Sounds to me like Mr Neil is going beyond his legal requirements to help ensure his business finds a place in the community.
Of course, the story is probably a lot more complex than is possible to fit into a small article such as this but based on the facts presented this sounds like a community that's actually getting a say in their future -- unlke the residents of Diddilibah, Kuluin and Buderim who found out about the construction of a cancer-causing, polluting asphalt plant being built metres from their back yards days before the end of the so-called 'public enquiry' phase.
It took community action and an article in this newspaper to notify the public to this attrocity, so perhaps it's council process that's upsetting Mr Middleton?
I hope the plans go ahead, and I look forward to quietly providing music for happy couples getting married there in the future.
