Get your lights on

Sunshine Coasters have dressed up their houses in their Christmas best.

Now it's your turn to pick the belle of the festive ball.

The 2008 Christmas Lights tour begins on Monday with the winning house and one lucky voter each scoring an LG 42 inch plasma television courtesy of the Kawana Betta Electrical Superstore.

Roslyn Harvey entered her home - complete with reindeer, Santa, sleigh and fibre optic delights - to ensure Rainsford Place at Buderim was part of this year's lights tour.

Ms Harvey, who lives at number 31, said her street embraced the Christmas spirit like neighbourhoods of yesteryear.

"Nearly the whole street does it here and it's just brilliant," she said.

"We have a big barbecue in the middle and we have a big get together.

"The kids come past and push the button on Santa. He sings and wriggles his butt. They dance and laugh.

"Closer to Christmas we give them a candy cane or lollies.

"It's such a happy time."

Her daughter Maddie, 12, said she was rapt to see all the lights.

"They're fantastic. People have put a lot of lot of effort. We've had about 50 cars gone past," she said.

"The rest of the year it's all blank but now it's really colourful and you see kids walking around the street and they all get really excited."

So much for reducing greenhouse gases!!! Why don't we all turn on every electrical appliance in the house and stuff the planet, then again "who cares about apathy"
