Failed building giant Real Property Constructions has been linked to a residential project managed by former cricketer Craig McDermott’s private company, Maxen Developments.
RPC has built dozens of homes at the Fraser Waters Beachside Estate project at Toogoom in Hervey Bay, and had more under construction when the company collapsed just over a week ago.
Onsite Direct – one of the ‘wealth creation’ companies named by Housing Minister Robert Schwarten in state parliament on Wednesday in connection with RPC’s demise - is selling property in the Fraser Waters Estate.
Many of those sales have been to investors through marketing seminars.
The Building Services Authority ordered an immediate stop work on all RPC projects and suspended the company’s licence when CEO Dennis Musca failed to inject the additional capital required to keep the business afloat.
More than 230 homes between the Gold Coast and Maryborough were under construction and another 87 deposits had been handed over when Mr Musca called in the liquidators.
The Daily understands more than a dozen of those homes were being constructed at Fraser Waters, while a similar number were being built at Maxen Developments’ 12 Mile Beach Estate at Hervey Bay.
According to reports in the Australian last year, court documents reveal McDermott has a long history defending legal actions.
Mr McDermott could not be contacted for comment and Maxen’s project manager declined to do so.
BSA General Manager Ian Jennings has previously said the liquidator is examining the a complex web of companies in the wake of the RPC collapse.
“There are a number of wealth creation companies, marketing companies and investment companies involved - companies which had a relationship with Dennis Musca, who would find him customers,” Mr Jennings said this week.
“About two thirds of those customers are not living in the area.”
