In support of the annual Cleanup Australia Day activities on Sunday 2 March, Kayak Noosa will be pitching in and assisting in the clean up of the Noosa River by co-ordinating a fleet of Kayaks.
Rod and Cath Withyman, the owners of Kayak Noosa, are keen supporters of any effort to clean up the Noosa River and will again be leading the effort on the river by offering their fleet of kayaks to assist this fantastic national program.
“On our Kayak Noosa tours, we are consistently educating people about the importance of keeping our waterways clean and minimizing our impact on the sensitive river ecosystem.” says Rod.
“We regularly remove up to a dozen plastic items from the river each day, that have made their way from storm water runoff and recreational litter,” he says. “The plastic not only looks unsightly but it has a detrimental effect on the health of much of the rivers marine and bird life.”
“Cleanup Australia Day is a fantastic initiative, we are happy to be involved with NICA to assist getting people on the river in our Kayaks to help remove some of the rubbish,” says Rod. “The day is not only about cleaning up it is also a great way to meet other people, have some fun and appreciate the beauty of the Noosa River.”
Kayak Noosa is the only specialised paddling company based in Noosa. They offer a broad range of kayaking options, from fitness sessions, recreational kayak tours and hire to kayak sales and paddling accessories and instructional programs.
Rod says, “The Sunshine Coast and in particular Noosa, have some of the best waterways and coastline for kayaking of anywhere in the world. “It is for that reason that we should be making every effort to protect and keep these areas clean,” he said.
Community members can join in the effort by contacting Kayak Noosa and registering to participate in the clean up of the river. Commencing at 8am on Sunday 2 March, the fleet will depart Jetty 17, 248 Gympie Terrace, Noosaville.
