Both mayors lay down the law

The mayoral candidates had a strong message yesterday when addressing 150 Sunshine Coast members of the Urban Development Institute of Australia: you’re either with us or against us.

Noosa mayor Bob Abbot said: “The members of your organisation are planning the future of this coast. That is a significant responsibility, a responsibility that should not be taken cheaply.

“I don’t want to see any more busts and booms here.”

Joe Natoli said a sustainable future depended on stronger alliances between state and federal governments.

“Bob and I both agree we have to change how we have done things in the past,” he said. “This is the community we all live in and we want to make sure it’s liveable for our kids and our kids’ kids.”

Good on you Bob and Joe. These people really do need to be put back in their box and only be allowed to speak when they are spoken to.

nice touch by the boys using, a bushism to kick off proceedings and then informing us that that somehow their going to change the past.

I hope we haven't underestimated the quality of the candidates.

The fate of our kids' kids' kids' kids will not be great or grand

Most of these developers don't give a damm -- all they can think of is the magic dollars ($$$$) . They must think they'll be dead one day and won't have to suffer the consequences of their actions . And in the meantime they will have what they consider a great rich ( money ) life.
This poor Coast and its inhabitants both Human and Flora and Fauna will be so much poorer in lifestyle and their environments .

I do see your point jayboy. About the bushisms.

The concept of both Mayors laying down the law is pretty silly in itself. However, technically, neither of them is really a Mayor of anything at the moment. Perhaps they should have said "No Mayors lay down the law".

Another one which struck me was the concept that people are either with them or against them when they are actually against each other at the same time.

I also don't like the assertion that “The members of your organisation (DIA) are planning the future of this coast". Isn't that the Council's job ? The DIA is the last group which we would want planning the Coast's future.

But we are splitting hairs and suffering the small things. Are these bushisms the work of the "Two Mayors" or the person who wrote the article ?

The Two Mayors...it's a shame that we don't have a third Mayor because that would make a great operatic show.

"Sorry Joe", A SUSTAINABLE future... who are you kidding. Its a little late now.
Bob and Joe agree they have to change what they have done in the PAST, "sorry again" I doubt if Bob agrees with that, as I see it Bob has done nothing wrong that he has to change. On the other hand look at Maroochyshire remember when(as one blogger recently wrote) one could drive around Maroochydore with ease, now people want to leave the coast and come to the hinterland, OOOPs, forgot there's not much left of that, better hurry cause its going fast.
I say roll on March 15. Lets have some real sustainability from a man that nows what he is truly talking about.
Bob you have my vote without a doubt.

The law as recorded in the Australian constitution is that the people are not expected to follow any law that is unjust or contradicts the constituion. The political soverighnty is with the people not the government and the gov requires an absolute majority from each shire to vote to be able to abolish the shires. The people of Noosa have created a legal entitlement to not vote with the recent completion of their referenum. Completing a notice of voters veto and then not voting is witholding consent from anything but maintaing a local council. The people of Clifton are well into this process and could be announcing there effective boycott next week. The local MP Glen Elmes will be questiopning Anna Bligh in the next sitting of parliment, she has been legally served by the Noosa Community. Bob Abbott has had another meeting with Her on Tue the 3 and is most interested in Democracy prevailing.
