Brace yourself for loads of entertainment, fun and inspiring forums as the Noosa Longweekend Festival kicks off today.
With over 6000 tickets sold so far and more expected to be snapped up during the 10-day event, the show is set to be bigger and better than ever with over 73 scheduled performances.
Stars such as actor Amanda Muggleton and director Rodney Fisher, of The Book Club, have been in town rehearsing for weeks now, but others including comedian Max Gillies were expected to arrive yesterday and from today.
The festival, which reportedly brought in $2.2 million for the local economy last year, will kick off with a special VIP launch, official opening by premier Anna Bligh, followed by opening night of The Book Club.
Some events are already sold out – such as The Book Club’s Saturday night performance, Opera Australia concert recital, No Country for Old PMs with Max Gillies, Sexy Numbers with John Croucher, Happiness forum with Geraldine Doogue, Cooking from the Heart with Maggie Beer, among others.
But festival general manager Gail Hewton said there were still tickets available to a number of top acts including: The Book Club (July 4-6), Soaring In Silver Skies with Sara Storer (July 13), Tom Waits For No Man (July 9), If Better is Possible with John Buchanan (July 9), and forums Cities On The Edge (July 12) and People On The Move (July 13).
“These two forums are particularly relevant to Noosa residents and people of south east Queensland,” she said.
“They will cover things like water and housing stress, rising sea levels and more.”
There are also many free events at this year’s festival, such as Finders Keepers, which will include roving artists, dancers, actors, storytellers, and The Brides of Frank (pictured on the cover).
Don’t forget to book the kids into the huge range of Major Minors free arts-based events and activities.
It will include instrument-making workshops, dancing, circus performing, sand sculpting, art, writing, and more.
