For a cop with no car, Veronica Brennan can cover her beat in Buderim as well as anyone, it seems.
The senior constable first had to rush on foot from her beat office to a fire at the Buderim Tavern this week.
A few hours later, she set off - again on foot - for a serious accident, but ended up hitching a lift from a woman in a four-wheel-drive.
“It was called in as an entrapment accident and I didn’t know who was at the scene so it was all systems go to get there,” she said. “I commenced on foot from the office and was approached by a lovely lady.
“She could see I was in a hurry. She was on her way to the library and had just driven past the accident.
“I think she presumed by my hurriedness that I was heading that way and asked ‘would you like a lift?’.”
A Hyundai Excel had rolled into the yard of a house on the corner of Mill Road and Gibson Street.
Snr Const. Brennan also relied on the public to get her back to the beat.
“Ambulance officers were going to give me a lift back but they were called off to an urgent job on the Bruce Highway,” she said.
“I would have walked back, but I got a lift back with a tow driver instead.
“I love working on the beat. I love the community spirit and yesterday was a good example of this.”
The beat officers have two bicycles but no vehicle because their role is usually restricted to the CBD.
Queensland Police Union representative for the Coast Des Hansson praised the officer’s initiative.

The Buderim Beat was set up in an attempt to prop up the then local member, a Labour mate.
I am not say we dont need a strong police presence at Buderim, however and as usual, the police beat at Buderim was established on a shoe string budget.
The police at Buderim beat are effective and dedicated, they provide us with great service under difficult circumstances.
It must be an embarrassment to the very senior police who view these images of their staff getting a lift in a tow truck when you see police cars parked at stations for days and weeks without movement. What do they say about that ??
I feel a raft of ministerial briefing notes and buck passing coming on, and what about a repeat for the new Sippy Downs Police Station, maybe and electric scooter ??. The police and people of Buderim deserve better Ms Bligh.
An idea from Disneyland precinct in California where the Police patrol in an electric motorsied car, like a golf buggy, as they move around the shopping area which is probably twice as big as Buderim village. Cheap, no pollution, little running costs and gets Police in the area and very visible.
