The Coastal Suns’ schedule is about to get a whole lot fuller
The team faces two double-header weekends in the next three weeks, starting with a trip to Cairns tonight.
Culminating in a meeting with Maroochydore, the double-headers should determine which of the two sides takes top spot in Pool B.
That top spot can make the difference between spending the grand final on court or in the grandstand, Suns’ co-captain Leanne Brushe said.
“If we come second, I think we’ll hit Townsville in the first cross-over final match,” Brushe said.
“If we can come first, we would be in good stead for making the final two.”
The women will get a chance to test the Townsville-waters tomorrow night, meeting the Flames in the second leg of their double-header.
“(Townsville) are a tough team, but not as strong as in previous years, so we’re not counting ourselves out just yet,” she said.
“We’ll go in confident (against Cairns), but we’re not taking it easy.”
Brushe should be confident – she takes to the court tonight coming off a season-best performance against Brisbane last weekend, shooting 24 points and taking 10 rebounds in the 83-57 win.
Brushe will need a pair of repeat performances this weekend to keep the Suns in the hunt for the top-of-pool spot.
She was quietly modest about her recent form.
“That’s my role in the team, to be a bit of a points-scorer,” Brushe said.
“Everyone has their little jobs, that’s one of mine.”
