Balaclava-clad burglars hit pharmacies

Thieves in balaclavas escaped with a stash of prescription drugs after two Sunshine Coast pharmacies were broken into overnight.

The Landsborough Chemist was targeted in the early hours of this morning, while the Pacific Paradise Pharmacy was hit around 9.30pm.

In both cases the thieves smashed through the front glass window and stole quantities of Sudafed and Dimetapp.

It was unclear how many packets of the drugs were taken, but police said it appeared the two break-ins were related.

Officers are currently studying surveillance footage from both incidents.

A number of Sunshine Coast pharmacies have stopped stocking pseudoephedrine-based cold and flu pills which can be used to make illegal drugs in a bid to deter smash-and-grab thieves.

At least Coast six chemists – including at Mountain Creek, Landsborough and Mooloolah – were broken into in the last two months of last year by burglars looking for pseudoephedrine.

The continuing attacks on our chemists and this latest report shows how desperate some people are becoming. Noting the report via this website yesterday re the UN report and Queensland being a major area; what's the solution? I am pleased that the stocks of cold and flu pills are being removed.
