Cooroy leads the way with super-speed broadband

Cooroy has been touted as the new technological hub of the northern Sunshine Coast, with a super-speed broadband system to be installed by next month.

Next week, the council will vote to contribute an extra $75,000 to get 5km of fibre-optic cable installed in and around the Cooroy CBD.

Councillor Lew Brennan said the high-speed broadband would change the face of business in Cooroy.

“It’s the supreme IT access you can get in Queensland today,” he said. “We’re aiming at getting high-quality information-based industries to relocate or establish in the Cooroy precinct.

“There will be opportunities for satellite distribution to the wider area, including Noosa if we don’t get access to fibre optic there. We’re thinking once this is distributed, (business) owners who take up the option and get access to this will probably identify increased value in their properties.”

My congratulations to the Council for having the foresight to invest in technology for Cooroy.
Maybe they can have a look at the Mountain Creek/Lower Buderim area where any Broadband at all is a miracle, whether it be Hardwired, Wireless, or Mobile.
While we're on the subject, could they also have a look at the possibility of an extra Cell Phone tower that actually covers this area, so that we don't have to go out on the road, or stand by the 3rd verandah post to get any coverage at all.

Great to see investment in future technology however just one question, on what basis was it determined that Cooroy would be the best place to commence installing this fibre optic cable?
If it is simply to give them broadbrand then that is fine as everyone should have it and business in Cooroy is just as important as anywhere else but if it is an upgrade of existing broadband then I would think there are several other business areas on the coast more in need?

Just for the record this project was one instigated by the old Noosa council and is really just Stage one of the bigger project for the whole of the Northern end of the region.

It is based in Cooroy because that is where all the broadband trunk mains are heading north up the coast and the best place to tap into one of the lines. This tap has the capacity to supply all the broadband needs for the northern end of the region for many years to come.

It is similar to the project that the old Maroochy Council developed for the central region which will provide a similar service to the central region in the future..

Oh please 'Get a Life' Maybe you should consider that it was negotiated under the Noosa Shire and on the cards well the Super Council.

On Buderim, In Buderim it doesn't matter, you're a mob of whingers, the towers are too ugly for you, the Supermarket was fought against, yet it is well patronised. Is there anything else you Buderimites want to complain about?
