A teenage girl had a lucky escape when her BMW flipped into a pond on the remote Upper Landershute Road at Palmwoods.
The Eagle Boys employee managed to free herself and scramble on to the underside of the car while she attempted to give directions to emergency services on her mobile phone.
The police and ambulance had great difficulty finding the girl because of the confusing geography of the area, so she was forced to perch on the car for half-an-hour.
When Senior Constable Marjan Borosak arrived, he hoisted her off the car to safety.
“It appears the vehicle was travelling south on Landershute Road and she’s lost control on a right-hand bend and ended up in a small creek,” he said. “She got out pretty much straight away and was waiting on top of her vehicle until we arrived and I assisted her off.
“We had a bit of trouble (finding her) because it’s on Upper Landershute, which is probably about half a kilometre up the road.
“She’s been taken to Nambour Hospital for observation but doesn’t appear to have any injuries.”
The girl was complaining of pain in her back, however, was given the all clear later.
Meanwhile, another young lady has been hospitalised after her scooter collided with a late model BMW on the David Low Way at Peregian Beach.
She suffered possible broken legs and facial injuries after hitting the windshield of the car.
Police said it appeared the 21-year-old driver of the BMW had not seen her heading south and had made a right-hand turn in to Jabiru Street.
Senior Constable Allan O’Neill said there was no evidence of recklessness.
“The witnesses stated they didn’t see any dangerous driving, it’s just a fail to actually see her,” he said.
The girl and the driver, who was taken to hospital with chest pain, were both last night in stable condition.

To me,
"didn't see" = didn't look = reckless driving = doesn't want to deal with the paperwork with charging the driver.
Sure, I don't know all the facts & didn't witness it, but
I'm sure my ass would be dragged over hot coals if it were his daughter I "didn't see".
Possibly due to blind spot, sun in eyes and maybe other reasons. I am definitely not a reckless driver and I am 59 yrs old, but I know it can happen to me too and nearly happened because of a blindspot in my car. It is bad enough for it to happen let's support in this case the driver and the victim. If the witnesses didn't see any dangerous driving why should we on the sideline.
Sorry it happened all the best to both parties
