Police run over teen outside Noosa hotel

A hotel security guard is under investigation after allegedly pushing a teenager into the path of a passing police car in Noosa.

Jamie Le Feuvre, 18, had his leg broken in two places when the car drove over him in front of the Reef Hotel just before 10pm on Saturday. He was in hospital last night, awaiting surgery.

Police said that as part of a routine patrol, two uniformed officers were driving along Noosa Drive in an unmarked car.

Police spotted what looked to be a disturbance outside the hotel.

They turned back and had slowed their car, preparing to stop.

The police then allegedly saw the 21-year-old security guard push Jamie La Feuvre.

The pair was standing in the marked parking bays outside the hotel’s entrance, and contract was allegedly made with Le Feuvre’s chest.

Police claim the blow caused the Mudjimba teen to stagger backwards about five metres and into the path of the police car, which was unable to stop in time.

It is believed Mr Le Feuvre hit the front of the police car and spun around before falling, with the front passenger wheel running over his right leg and breaking it in two places – the lower leg and ankle.

The officers immediately administered first aid until an ambulance arrived.

A 21-year-old Gympie man was arrested.

He was later released without charge, pending further investigations.

Police were on the scene until 3am and returned again later in the morning to mark out and measure the location of the incident.

The Police Ethical Standards Command has been called in to oversee the investigation.

It is believed a hotel staff member was present with the security guard at the time of the incident, which happened just outside the range of the pub’s security cameras.

The Reef Hotel’s management was unavailable for comment yesterday.

Darren Le Feuvre visited his son at Nambour General Hospital, where he is awaiting surgery for breaks in his lower leg and ankle.

“He was in absolute agony,” Mr La Feuvre said.

“He’s going to need a few operations, they need to put plates and pins and things in.

“It could be a week before he has the surgery, because they need to wait for the swelling to go down first.”

Mr Le Feuvre said from what he had heard of the incident, his son was fortunate to be alive – a sentiment echoed by police officers at the scene on Saturday night.

“We are just trying to work out what happened,” he said. “But first we need to make sure Jamie is okay.”

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

If he's found to be guilty, I hope that security person is out of the game for good and that hotel establishments look at the quality of their security staff.

What everyone seems to of missed is that the teen was allegedly very intoxicated, abusive and threatening. He was refused entry a number of times to the hotel and had previously been asked to leave another Noosa venue.
Sounds like the guards were doing their job to me.

What's the point that this was a police car? If it was a plumber would the headlines scream 'Plumber's car hits teen'?

A 21 year old security guard? You've got to be kidding. If the police didn't run over him and need a disclaimer they probably would've been joking and laughing with the so called security about the violence. What do many guys, many innocent amongst them, do after allegedly being punched and bullied and belittled by so called security or police? They walk the streets and take it out on others and the community, sometimes months later and often in little gangs for safety. It eats at them.
