The trusted combination of Shirley Mackaway and Melva Skellern has again come to the fore to collect back-to-back titles with last week’s Sunshine Coast Masters Fours victory.
Last month, Mackaway and Skellern combined with Annette Lund and Liz Pauli to win the Association fours.
This time Mooloolaba players Dell Sandercock and June Wilkinson joined the champion pair to defeat Jewel Smith Franklin (Kawana Waters) 25-11 in the final. The Mooloolaba combination established an 11-3 lead after seven ends, followed soon after with a run of two, two, three and three to extend the break the 24-9.
Smith-Franklin’s team of D Myers, Jan Rutledge and Noela Whitton had a 22-13 semi final win against Lorraine Wilmot, while Mackaway took out Gene Nagy (Caloundra RSL) 31-10. The Mooloolaba pair of Mackaway and Skellern will be with the Sunshine Coast ladies in Brisbane this week for the State Sides Championships.
