Falcons free for Toyota Cup clash

The Sunshine Coast Falcons’ quintet of FOGS Cup players will all be available for this Saturday’s Toyota Cup clash with Toowoomba after the Sea Eagles successfully rescheduled its match against Wynnum-Manly.

Originally pencilled in to take on the Seagulls on Saturday night at Stockland Park, Wynnum-Manly have agreed to play the fixture at Kougari Oval on Sunday.

The move allows Jason Wardrop, Chris Chaisty, Brandon Costin, Jason Schmidt and Steve McPhee to line up for the Falcons at Caboolture on Saturday afternoon before backing up for the Sea Eagles on Sunday.

The decision, confirmed early yesterday afternoon, is a massive boost for the Falcons, who began their campaign in the centenary season knockout competition with a 44-16 win over Bundaberg at Crusher Park on Saturday night.

Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles CEO Brett Winkler was pleased the two clubs could come to an arrangement that suited both parties.

“The Falcons match against Toowoomba is a big game and we want to give that team every chance,” he said.

“This weekend we’re going back to the old days when you played rep footy on Saturday and backed up for your club on the Tuesday.

“It’s brought a unity where the guys in the local competition are integrating with our players, and that’s good for the region all up.”
