6:18a.m. 22 May 2008
A 57-year-old Palmwoods man died after crashing his car on Maroochydore Road late yesterday afternoon.
The man’s Nissan Maxima sedan was travelling west on the road around 5pm when it crossed a concrete island onto the wrong side of the road.
The car hit a set of traffic lights and then two embankments.
The driver was pronounced dead at the Nambour General Hospital.
It is not yet known what caused the accident, but the Forensic Crash Unit and Scenes of Crime officers are investigating.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Coolum man had to have his lower right leg amputated after a horror crash on the David Low Way on Tuesday night.
Police believe the man was travelling north in his Kombi when a sedan carrying five people swerved into his lane, and collided with his vehicle head-on.
The Coolum man was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital for surgery. He was in a stable condition yesterday.
