John Daly
Wayward golfer John Daly, whose once promising career has degenerated into a sideshow, will play in the Australian Masters at Huntingdale next week but is yet to sign on for the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA at Hyatt Coolum.
Daly, who was recently put in protective custody overnight after being found drunk outside a North Carolina restaurant, will play in this week’s Hong Kong Open before flying to Melbourne for the Masters.
Both events are co-sanctioned with the European Tour.
“I am looking forward to coming back to Australia,” Daly said in a statement issued by Masters promoters. “I’ve always enjoyed my trips there and I’m looking forward to competing.”
PGA promoters are yet to secure the two-time major winner for the December 4-7 event on the Sunshine Coast and are unlikely to pay appearance money should the American want that as part of his deal.
At the 2002 PGA, Daly was disqualified for failing to sign his second-round scorecard; fined $5600 and ordered to write an apology to a tour official he abused.

To focus on his last tournament there [hyatt] is a joke, surely?
The mans only human and yes does struggle through life, but it WAS only a week after his mothers' passing....so is there any readers out there when put in the same position, would even compete and honour their word to play under the same circumstances?
As far as I can see....the Hyatt have generated heaps of publicity in framing and displaying his 'lost' putter on the pro shop wall....and were'nt his full set of clubs that he left, auctioned and the proceeds went to charity?
I live a stones throw from the course, and the only thing that would get me out to pay and watch this year would be the return of JD...
The man is a larger than life figure and can pull a crowd.....I would have thought that during these tough times in Aus Golf and the economy in general.......that making sure he appears should be paramount.......BUT then again, I'm just a paying member of Joe public.....
Nobodys expecting BIg John to win any of the tournaments in Aus...we just want to be entertained??
