The competition between teams may not rival that of the F1 stables, but when the weekend rolls around all teams be fixated on beating the rival racers.
Students from Pacific Lutheran College at Caloundra, Michael Ford, Mitchell Davidson and cousins Ryan and David Pitcher, will represent one of only two Queensland schools in the Australian Model Solar Car Challenge in Hobart this weekend.
The school gained a place after coming first, second and fourth at the Maryborough Technology Challenge in September.
After two weeks of working through lunchbreaks, the team is looking forward to pitching their $600 vehicles against 30 of the best solar cars in the country on a 100 metre figure of eight track.
Conducting their final test run yesterday, Michael said modifications which had made the vehicles more aerodynamic meant they were confident they would do well.
