Wish made, myth busted

It's been a rough year for Cameron Smith.

The 12-year-old was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February and has spent much of the past year in and out of hospital.

But if you ask the Nambour Christian College student he’ll tell you 2008 has also been the “funnest” year of his life.

That’s because the Make a Wish Foundation arranged for Cameron and his family to spend a week in San Francisco where Cam met his heroes – Jamie and Adam and the rest of the Mythbusters gang.

He watched the popular show while he was in hospital and meeting the crew after being cleared of active cancer was a dream come true.

“I was a really big fan and I liked what they did, they are always exploding things and I thought it would be really cool if I could go meet them,” he said.

“It was awesome. They are really nice people and everything they do is really cool.

“It has been a very bad year, but it’s also been exciting, the funnest year to my life. The Make a Wish Foundation have done a lot for kids and I really appreciate what they do for us because when you are going through this treatment you miss out on part of your life. They give you that back.”

Cam’s appreciation was shared by his whole family.

“The foundation was just phenomenal. They organised everything, the hotel, the transport, for the Mythbusters day they picked us up in a limo. The kids were beside themselves.

“They also arranged for us to do other tours while we were there, they were just amazing.”

“We know we are going to support them forever. They just go all out to give kids something after all that pain and also give the families some good memories. We are going to treasure ours forever.”
