It will be a night of passion and grace when flamenco music and dance come to The J this weekend.
Back by popular demand, internationally acclaimed ensemble Jaleos Flamenco will bring together the intricate rhythms, dazzling footwork and raw energy of flamenco in performances that encompass the ancient richness of the traditional version and the virtuosity of the contemporary.
Brisbane-based Jaleos Flamenco plans to mesmerise its audience with six beautiful dancers, led by Simone Pope, and Spanish guitar virtuoso Andrew Veivers.
Simone frequently returns to Spain to immerse herself in the latest technical and artistic directions of flamenco, resulting in superb contemporary choreographies that never fail to transfix the audience.
She has performed throughout the country, appearing at world music and folk festivals as well as in concert halls and theatres.
A recent winner of the Queensland Recording Association’s Sunnie Award for best album (folk, ethnic and other), Andrew Veivers is one of Australia’s best-known and accomplished Spanish guitarists.
With over 15 years of professional experience, and performance success throughout Australia and Europe, Andrew draws on a wide range of musical influences, evoking the sensual and mesmerising sounds of the Spanish guitar in all of its guises.
Lovers of this genre appreciate Andrew as a true master of this highly skilful style.
The fun will begin with the bar opening at 7pm for an 8pm start.
