It’s that time again – time to dust off the bike and lace up the shoes for the legendary Noosa Triathlon.
This year 41-year-old Noosa triathlete and twice Noosa Triathlon winner in the 80s Nick Croft is leaving his own age group and testing himself in the Noosa Triathlon’s open age group.
“I’ve made a concerted effort to come back and this way I get to compete against the best of the best in the amateur categories,” he said.
In his capacity as head coach of Multisport Consultants, Nick coaches between 30-40 athletes from beginners and upwards. He also conducts an online training component with people from across the globe.
“Eighty per cent of my online squad don’t live on the Sunshine Coast. I have people from as far as Canada and Germany,” he said.
He said ideally a Noosa Triathlon competitor needed about 12 weeks’ lead-up training and the ability to swim 1500 metres and run 5-8 kilometres.
“If you don’t have that much training, you could probably still do it, but you would most likely be sore and sorry after it,” he said.
Personally, Nick’s training program consists of 12-15 hours per week. He swims on three days, rides four or five days and also runs on three days.
This year Nick will be conducting a training workshop a day before the triathlon that will advise on points unique to the Noosa Triathlon.
“This is an open day for everyone,” he said. Enquiries to www.usmevents.com.au
