The breath of fresh air blowing through Noosa Junction shows no sign of abating with Noosa Junction Plaza about to embark on a facelift.
The centre has already completed its bathroom renovations and, in the coming weeks, a fresh coat of paint will be applied and new logos will adorn the centre.
Lorraine Marshall, centre manager since March, said the Plaza and its 26 stores wanted to be a part of the rebirth of Noosa Junction.
“We are part of (the Noosa Junction) precinct and we want to do everything we can to improve ourselves and improve the whole precinct,” she said.
“If you want to go to markets you go to Eumundi, if you want to upmarket you can go to Hastings Street.
“But if you want the village feel, we’re it.”
The work is expected to be completed in time for Christmas.
So far the signs are good, Mrs Marshall said foot traffic was up on last year, 28% for July and 25% for August, and there was energy within the Noosa Junction Traders Association to build on the momentum created through Junction initiatives such as the map guide and the two new festivals to be launched in the new future.
But it’s not all plain sailing in the retail business, and Mrs Marshall said a key to the Plaza’s success, and the Junction overall, would be playing to the precinct’s strengths.
One of those strengths was the collective will among traders to make their business succeed and, as Mrs Marshall puts it, the Junction is a “have a go area”.
“We need to get some focus on what is right,” she said.
“Once people see others trying they think, ‘We should be trying it as well’.
“If we don’t look after our own backyard and help ourselves how can we expect others to help us?”
Noosa Junction Plaza centre manager Lorraine Marshall is excited about redevelopment plans for the centre.
