Revised plans for a wedding retreat in Tinbeerwah have done little to placate residents, who are worried it will destroy the peace and quiet of the hinterland area.
The man behind the Noosa Wedding Retreat last month extended an invitation for residents to look over plans for the proposed development, and at the time he said their input would help shape the design for Noosa’s first boutique wedding venue.
However, when Will Neil invited residents to view the plans, he said just one person took up the offer.
“We have done everything council has asked us to do, we’ve stuck to the Noosa Plan and addressed every issue raised in the 62 letters of objection,” he said.
Residents say a reduction in parking will inevitably mean cars have to park on the street and concerns have been raised about the redesign of the entrance. Concrete barriers meant to prevent headlights shining into neighbours’ houses have been described as an eyesore.
But the main bone of contention is the zoning – entertainment and dining or home-based business.
“The applicant is trying to distance themselves from an entertainment and dining business by not applying for a liquor license,” resident Paul Middleton said.
“What this means is that we have up to 100 guests being served alcohol in this quiet residential area and we don’t get any protection from liquor licensing regulations.”
Mr Neil said ABS figures showed the entire Coast region played host to about 9000 weddings a year.
“I plan to do 40 a year,” he said.
Council’s planning report is expected to be presented to the strategy and planning committee in November.

What is teh difference between a 100 people drinking in a orderly fashion compared to the parties that are being thrown at the holiday homes on the same street...i beleive many of you may remeber the good shepherds after party not to long back...music till 3 am, near or more a hundred underage kids setting off alarms and drinking? well you may not relise this but this happens on regular basis...we have learned to deal with it as there is NOTHING we can do. As for the wedding venue its a lovely idea in a perfect location and hope everyone should see the bigger picture.
This tiny project with negligible impacts provides a different type and scale of wedding venue that doesn't yet exist in Noosa which is good for that industry and it has benefits for the wider community. And it is in the owners interests to preserve and enhance the rural character and biodiversity of the site.
