Noosa 5 Cinemas will celebrate the release of the Queensland-set film Crooked Business (MA), with a special screening followed by an open forum with the film’s creators on Tuesday, October 14.
Sunshine Coast film enthusiasts will not only have the chance to be among the first to see the film, but also meet the film’s director and producer.
Writer/director Chris Nyst, writer of AFI award-winning film Gettin’ Square, and producer Scott Corfield, of Carbon Studio, will host a special Q & A session following the 6.30pm screening.
Crooked Business is a fast-paced comedy of errors, set on Australia’s notoriously trashy (always glitzy) Gold Coast.
Two likeable crooks find themselves in a corner that’s going to take all their street smarts to get out of – because “if you’re gonna do crooked business, you’ve gotta do it straight”.
Small-time hustler Elmo, and his best mate “Stand-up” Stevie are just a couple of knockabouts trying to make an easy buck on the Gold Coast.
They’re not exactly criminals, but then again they’re not mugs, either.
They just like to have a few of life’s little luxuries now and then.
Life is sweet, until Stevie finds himself in hot water for selling a dodgy watch to biker, Russian Tony.
You see, Stevie never did understand the rules of crooked business.
The film stars Australian comedian Anh Do, Jay Laga’aia (Nim’s Island), Fiarss Dirani (Black Balloon), Anthony Brandon Wong (The Matrix Revolutions) and Teo Gebert (Under the Radar).
The film also features appearances by Titans Rugby League sensations Scott Prince and dual international Mat Rogers as two snatch-and-grab men who rob a pawn broker’s shop.
Crooked Business (MA) comes to Coast cinemas nationally on Thursday, October 16.
