Coolum Kite Festival organisers are urging motorists to take advantage of free parking and bus services this weekend due to a number of road closures in and around Coolum.
More than 40,000 visitors are expected to converge upon Coolum Beach for the festival, which will see Stumers Creek Road closed from 1pm on Friday, October 10 to 6pm on Sunday, October 12.
The David Low Way will be closed through the main street of Coolum, between Hewitt Street and Springfield Avenue, on Saturday from 1pm to 10pm and on Sunday from 9.30am to 5pm.
A number of detours will be in place.
Buses will run between Beach Road and Stumers Creek with pick-up points at the Coolum Sports Complex, Jack Morgan Park, Tickle Park and Elizabeth Street (behind Element on Coolum) every 10 minutes. Free parking will be available at the Coolum Sports Complex, Jack Morgan Park and Elizabeth Street.
In addition, bus services travelling to Coolum will be available every half an hour from central locations around the Sunshine Coast.
Sunbus has advised that the route 620 bus between Maroochydore and Tewantin servicing Maroochydore, Bli Bli, Pacific Paradise, Mudjimba Beach, Marcoola, Coolum Beach, Peregian Beach, Marcus Beach, Sunshine Beach, Noosa Heads and Tewantin will be the best bus for festival visitors to catch.
