They thought they would be $40,000 out of pocket.
But somehow the Noosa Longweekend organisers have finished up with a bit of change in the bank.
And according to the event’s president Karen Mitchell, the management committee was more than a little shocked when they received the good news this week.
“Half of them nearly fell off their chairs!” she said.
The outcome means the event will not need to call on the financial indemnity offered by the Sunshine Coast Council.
Ms Mitchell said it was a huge relief to not have to ask for assistance.
“The indemnity gave us confidence and comfort, but we performed way better than expected which is terrific,” she said.
“It will always be hard but we hope not to be in that position again.”
She said the result was due to a 5% saving in costs paired with a 6% increase in box office sales.
A total of 8,700 tickets were sold, with box office takings of $360,000.
More than 270 artists, speakers and authors took part in the festival.
