Man bailed over 'drunken rampage'

A man has faced court today after allegedly robbing and threatening random people in the streets of Mooloolaba earlier this year.

James Dylan Preston, who has been in custody for five months, was released on bail on three charges of robbery under arms and three charges of deprivation of liberty.

The 25-year-old will face trial later in the year, along with his co-accused Braccio Montone and Daryl Joseph Headley, who both face the same charges and are already on bail.

Headley is also charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, while Montone faces a charge of common assault.

It is alleged the trio drank vast amounts of alcohol on April 5 before going on a rampage in Brisbane Road and Palm Drive.

Police prosecutor Andy Macpherson did not oppose today’s bail application in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court, on the condition that Preston has no contact with Headley or Montone.

He will be required to report to Maroochydore Police Station three times a week as part of his bail conditions.

The trial will be in Maroochydore District Court at a date to be set.
